Coalition wants to relieve the burden on health insurance contribution payers

"We want to give the insured with high contribution backlogs the chance to finally get out of the ever faster spinning contribution spiral," said CDU health politician jens spahn to the "suddeutsche zeitung" newspaper. Those who have not been insured up to now because of fear of having to pay the additional contributions can choose a simple way back into health insurance after the law is passed. "With this, we are correcting, in the interest of those affected, some regulations of recent years that have been too harsh," said spahn.

The black-yellow coalition wants to lower the interest rate on unpaid health insurance premiums from the current annual rate of 60 percent to 12 percent in the future. So that the debts of the succulent contributors did not rise so fast any more. Already now, however, the funds can also waive the interest on application. After the bill was passed, federal health minister daniel bahr (FDP) declared that existing debts would continue to be subject to the old surcharge. The lowered interest rate will only apply to new contribution arrears.
